Sustainability Strategy
Ioannes is run by its sole founder and creative director Johannes Boehl-Cronau, supported by a small team. We follow a sustainability approach rooted not in obligation but in creative intention. We do not view sustainability as a parallel track but as inherent to the act of making.
Within our team we make sure, every voice is heard, and contributions shape real decisions. It is important to us to keep a non-hierarchical and collaborative environment across all interactions — internal, external, creative, or operational. This ethical foundation informs how we approach our partners, our team, and our customers.
Over 90% of our production takes place in EU, primarily in Portugal and Bulgaria. Through visiting our manufacturers we ensure that we can trust those long-standing partners to produce quality garments while aligning with our values regarding fair labor and environmental consciousness. When expanding into new product categories, we take ample time to find factories that match those criteria . Across all categories, we work in intentional quantities. We reduce overproduction by pairing seasonal styles with core pieces we are able to carry over seamlessly into subsequent seasons.
Our material choices are guided by a preference for natural fibers and high-quality textiles. We prioritize premium plant-based fibers and rely on EU-sourced deadstock for our synthetic fabrics. While certifying every fabric remains financially difficult at our scale, we aim to source all our fabrics within the EU and select materials that inherently support longevity and responsible use.
As a small brand, we track our environmental and social progress through our seasonal development cycles, material sourcing decisions, and financial performance. With shifting our focus toward a direct-to-consumer strategy, we aim to deepen our understanding of our customers while improving transparency and internal monitoring — enabling a clearer assessment of how our choices shape our environmental impact over time.
The review process during Berlin Fashion Week marks the beginning of a more structured data collection effort, enabling us to evaluate our footprint more systematically in the future. We aim to continuously add to our Sustainability Goals, guided by the belief that responsibility is not an external requirement but integral to our creative practice.
